Kayak from Tafjord to Geiranger

Western Norway's most beautiful kayak trip

From USD 1531

Join us on Western Norway´s beautiful kayak trip from Tafjord to Geiranger. We will paddle through UNESCO-protected fjord landscapes; from the calm and unique Tafjord and past majestic waterfalls and enchanting mountainsides, all the way to lively Geiranger. On this trip you´re surrounded by stunning nature for the duration of the trip, paddling in pristine cold water fjords and sleeping under the stars.

Highlights

  • Experience two of the world's most beautiful fjords from a kayak
  • Side mountain trips to several fjord farms along Storfjorden
  • Unique accommodation in Olagarden; a farm that takes you 100 years back in time
  • Hidden and isolated accommodation, only accessible by boat
  • Cozy accommodation in Geiranger at the end of the trip
  • Introductory kayak course -  certification included

The fjords we paddle on are both on UNESCO's world heritage list due to their spectacular natural and cultural history. We look forward to sharing our knowledge of the region with you! The paddling trip is just under 65 km (40 miles), taking us four days to paddle. During the paddling trip, we will spend three nights in tents along the fjord and cook dinner together while enjoying the view. We have included an overnight stay in Tafjord before the paddling trip itself to get a review of basic rescue and communication routines before we enter the fjord. In Geiranger, our final night awaits with a three-course dinner, hotel accommodation, and spa. This is a trip that provides both authentic outdoor sensations and comfort in magnificent western Norway nature!

Physical level

3/6 Physical

On these trips, some of the stages are demanding. On level 3 mountain hikes, there are often some long stages, and / or a demanding summit push where it can get cold. You must stand up to reach the goal, and have a good training basis and good health before departure. We sleep in tents and / or in cabins and hotels, but you do not have to have experience with tent life to participate. If the trip includes activities such as kayaking, cycling, climbing, glacier, skiing / mountaineering, it is an advantage to have experience with this activity.

Training and preparations

This trip is suitable for those who have experience with kayaking and are able to spend long days on the water. There is no requirement for any certifications in kayaking, but the participants themselves are responsible for having basic paddling skills.

Accommodation and food

We spend the night at Olagarden in Tafjord on day 1, and at a guest house in Geiranger on day 5. We will sleep in tents for the duration of the paddling tour. Dinner on days 1 and 5 is included. The food on the paddling trip itself is not included, so here each participant must bring their own.

Other information

The fjord system we paddle can offer all kinds of weather and wind, and this means that the trip can be anything from "easy" to "demanding". We hope to paddle during the day, but the weather and wind will dictate what time of day we paddle. Should the weather and wind pose too great a challenge for the trip to be carried out, the guide and the office will do their best to come up with an alternative plan.

Highlights

Day by day

Day 1:Meeting Tafjord and kayak certification

We will meet at Olagarden in Tafjord at 14:00 for check-in and a small snack. After check-in, we go down to the fjord for an introductory kayak course and learn about the equipment. The paddling trip we will undertake is long, and it is important to us that all the equipment and kayaks are adapted to each individual and that everyone has completed the training. After the preparations, dinner is served in Olagarden while we enjoy the view over the Tafjord and the massive, encircling mountains from the dinner table.

Day 3:To Norddalsfjorden and Synnylvsfjorden

Today we leave Tafjorden and move into Norddalsfjorden and Synnylvsfjorden. The fjord gets wider with each kilometer, from the steep mountains around Tafjord to the more open fjord landscape. This is the widest point on the fjord, and here the sea can be a little rougher than on the rest of the trip. Today's goal is the Synnylvsfjord and a lovely camp where very few people travel. We aim to start every day at 10 am, but the group and the weather dictate how early we will start paddling.

Day 4:To Geirangerfjord

Today's destination is the Geirangerfjord itself! We spend large parts of the day on the Synnylvsfjorden and get a good view of the stunning mountain range Åkerneset. The Synnylvsfjorden is the fjord arm that leads into the Geirangerfjorden, and the contrasts between the two fjords are incredible. From the open and mild Synnylvsfjord, we turn east into the heart of fjord Norway: the Geirangerfjord. Here we will set up camp for the last time.
