On this adventure, you will trek the historical route in the National Park of Jotunheimen towards the beautiful fjords in the west. You will explore some of the most renowned, and beautiful mountain passages within the area. During this tour, you will visit some of the most important places in Norwegian outdoor culture and follow trails established by the Norwegian Trekking Association.
On day two of your adventure, you will hike on the famous Besseggen which is one of the most classic hikes in Norway, and the view towards the lake of Gjende's turquoise waters is humbling and breath-taking.
This trail is for confident hikers who are comfortable using their hands and feet in some scrambling terrain. The scrambling sections are a short part of Bessegen, however, it can feel exposed. We encourage you to have experience in this type of terrain to join this trip, as the hike is committed to getting to our destination.
After your days in the National Park's mountains, your route heads towards where fjord meets mountains, to the famous Norwegian fjords in the west. First, you will hike on the Old King's Road from 1790, a beautiful hike that takes you through fascinating architectural history and beautiful nature. On the next day, you experience the green and wild valley of Utladalen. In Utladalen, you will find old traditional Norwegian farms and the largest unregulated waterfall in all of Norway. With its 275 meters of free-falling water, the sound and view of Avdalsfossen is an incredible natural wonder.
Our tour ends with one of Fjord Norway's most beautiful views. You will hike to the mountain Prest, one of the most beautiful viewpoints around Flåm before you leave with Flåmsbanen to Oslo or Bergen - one of the world's most beautiful train journeys.
While hiking in a small and exclusive group of explorers, you will stay in the beautiful and traditional mountain lodges en route. Later, you will stay in modern cabins and a beautiful hotel with a stunning fjord view. Your luggage will be transported to Jotunheimen while you hike.
If you are a keen hiker and explorer, looking for a real adventure tour in Norway, then you should add this to your bucket list!
- 24 hour emergency communication
- All guides have wilderness first aid experience
- Necessary medicine and first aid equipment available
- Cooperation with Turlegen.no for medical advice while on expedition
On these trips, some of the stages are demanding. On level 3 mountain hikes, there are often some long stages, and / or a demanding summit push where it can get cold. You must stand up to reach the goal, and have a good training basis and good health before departure. We sleep in tents and / or in cabins and hotels, but you do not have to have experience with tent life to participate. If the trip includes activities such as kayaking, cycling, climbing, glacier, skiing / mountaineering, it is an advantage to have experience with this activity.
Activities / trips with some risk. Some incidents may occur, and they may be of such a nature that they require professional help.
Training and preparation
The paths in Norway can be slippery, muddy and rocky, having hiking experience in similar terrain is beneficial. Some of the trails are exposed and require some scrambling. Being comfortable in scrambling conditions, slightly exposed settings and challenging hiking terrain is necessary on this trip.
We stay in unique and welcoming accommodations within the area. If you are traveling alone, you will share a same-sex twin room. If you would like a single room, please request this directly for a single, additional payment of 3000 NOK.
Most nights we will stay in en-suite rooms, but not all. If you want a single room we can't guarantee an en-suite room each day.
We meet in Oslo in the morning, so we recommend arriving the night before. The trip ends in Flåm after breakfast. You have to arrange your own return journey from Flåm. Book train tickets at www.vy.com.
We reserve the right to change prices. The day by day program is a guideline and changes may occur. You can refer to our general travel conditions for more information.
On all our trips, we require you to have full health and accident insurance which will also cover any emergency transport home. Read more about travel insurance.
We always recommend wool in the Norwegian Mountains, but if you already have synthetic layers and don't want to buy new ones, synthetic is okay.
Bed linen and towels are included at each accommodation.
Due to limited space in the minibus, we ask that you bring one piece of luggage (we recommend a duffel bag, which is easier than a rolling bag to transport on this tour) with your clothes, toiletries, and items necessary for when we are not hiking. We require you to bring a day pack (hip belt strongly recommended) to use when hiking for food, water, cameras, and layers.
There will be luggage transportation by boat in Jotunheimen, so be prepared to carry your luggage from the boat pier to the cabins, max 400m (easier with a duffel bag).
